
Srinagar, July 16: A prolonged spell of hot and dry weather is expected to persist across the Kashmir Valley for next three days with Srinagar likely to witness its hottest day of the season.
According to independent weather forecaster Aadil Maqbool, a prolonged spell of dry, hot and stable weather is expected to persist across the Valley over the next 72 hours, till July 18.
He said maximum temperatures in Srinagar is likely to touch 36 to 37 degrees Celsius.
“Most plains of Kashmir are expected to remain 5 to 8 degrees above the seasonal average, significantly increasing heat stress in the Valley,” he said.
Aadil said for Jammu region, no significant rise in day temperatures is expected as monsoon like conditions will continue.
According to Met official, the weather from July 16-18 is expected to be generally hot and humid with possibility of brief spell of rain/thundershower at few places.
“On July 19, there will be partly cloudy cover with a spell of light to moderate rain, thundershower at many places with brief intense heavy showers at isolated places of Jammu region,” he said.
“From July 20-23, weather will be generally cloudy with few spells of light to moderate rain, thundershower at most places (peak activity on 21 & 22 July) with heavy rain, brief intense heavy showers at few districts of Kashmir and Jammu region,” the MeT official said adding there will be brief spells of rain, thundershowers at few place on July 24-25.
The MeT has issued an advisory about possibility of heavy rainfall/brief intense heavy showers during July 19 & 20-22 at few district of J&K towards late afternoon and evening hours & late night and morning hours.
“There is possibility of flashfloods, landslides, mudslides at few vulnerable places of Chenab Valley, PirPanjal Range & few hilly areas of Kashmir region on July 20-22,” the MeT said.
It warned of water logging and chances of minor flooding in few low lying areas and significant rise in water level in rivers, streams, local nallas etc especially in Jammu region.
