Srinagar recorded the season’s first sub-zero temperature as the cold tightened its grip with the night temperature settled in Srinagar at minus 0.7 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
A MeT official said the night temperature during the preceding night dipped in Srinagar to a low of minus 0.7°C.
It was 1.4°C below normal for the first time for Srinagar during this period of season.
“Pahalgam remained the coldest place as minimum temperature dipped to minus 3.7 degrees Celsius. It was 1.6°C below normal for the tourist spot of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district,” the MeT official said.
The night temperature at the ski resort of Gulmarg settled at minus 0.6 degrees Celsius, which was 0.8 degrees Celsius above normal for the tourist resort.
Shopian in south Kashmir recorded the season's coldest night, with the minimum temperature dipped to minus 3.9°C on Wednesday.
The night temperature in Qazigund dipped to minus 1.6 degrees Celsius, which was 2.1°C below normal.
The picnic spot of Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of 1.2 degrees Celsius and it was 0.2 degrees Celsius below normal for the place.
In Kupwara, the night temperature settled at minus 0.8 degrees Celsius.
The MeT official said weather in Kashmir is likely to remain dry till November 23.
“The wet spell is likely to commence on November 24 with possibility of light rain and light snow over higher reaches and at scattered places of Kashmir and isolated places of Jammu region,” he said.
Afterwards, the weather is very likely to remain generally dry till November 30.
