Srinagar, July 18: Srinagar recorded the hottest day of the season on Saturday as the maximum temperature soared to 35.9 degrees Celsius as the Valley remained in the grip of intense heatwave.

A MeT official said Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 35.9 degrees Celsius today, which was 5.8 degrees Celsius above normal.
It was the hottest day of the season in Srinagar.
The temperature, however, remained below last year's peak of 37.4 degrees Celsius recorded on July 6.
Srinagar had also recorded 36.2 degrees Celsius on July 29, 2024.
Several places across Kashmir also witnessed unusually high temperatures with Kupwara recording 35.6 degrees Celsius, Baramulla and Ganderbal 34.5 degrees Celsius each, Shopian 34.4 degrees Celsius, Pulwama 33.4 degrees Celsius, Kokernag 33.1 degrees Celsius and Qazigund 32.6 degrees Celsius.
The famed ski resort of Gulmarg recorded 25.6 degrees Celsius.
In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded 35 degrees Celsius, while Kathua registered 34.8 degrees Celsius and Poonch 33.9 degrees Celsius.
The prevailing heatwave-like conditions prompted people to remain indoors during peak afternoon hours, while parks, markets, and other public places witnessed reduced activity due to the scorching weather.
Health experts have advised people to stay well-hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and take necessary precautions, particularly children, senior citizens, and those with underlying health conditions.
