At a time when the Srinagar Municipal Corporation had called for the registration of pet dogs in Srinagar. The residents across Srinagar have urged the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to get rid of the stray dog threat in the city which has taken a heavy toll on them.
“It is quite scary to move out of the house even after 8 p.m., there are stray dogs everywhere in the area’, said Majid a resident of Jawahar Nagar. Adding that he said there have been times when we have uploaded the video and tagged officials but nothing has been done so far.
“There are not just one or two stray dogs, but a dozen of them. Life has become miserable, believe me”, he said. Not only that we have called SMC officials several times, but, they don’t bother listening to us”, Majid said.
“My office is in Rangreth and I cannot express how scary is to go home on a two-wheeler every day”, said Nadeem Bhat. Adding that he said, “You will find dogs every 100 meters and they case you like anything”.
It is a daily routine. Never in my life have I seen Srinagar Municipal Corporation taking action against these stray dogs which has made the life of everyone, Nadeem said.
“I was coming back from Chanapora, last week after attending a wedding function. As soon we passed near the Pamposh Colony, a group of stray dogs attacked a two-wheeler, which escaped miraculously”, said Hayat Khan.
This is the condition of the so-called Srinagar Smart City, Khan said. Adding that he said, “Children, women and old age people can’t move out of their house late at night as these stray dogs are all over the place. We sincerely urge the official of Srinagar Municipal Corporation to get rid of the stray dog threats”.
It is pertinent to mention here that SMC Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu in May this year said that Srinagar city will get rid of the stray dog population within 6 to 7 years as the corporation is set to kick-start a sterilization process at a large scale very shortly.
Adding that Mattu had said that it had invited SKUAST scientists and veterinary experts to start the process within a month to ensure that the people in Srinagar could heave a sigh of relief from the menace.
