The Lolab Mela 2023 serves as an ideal platform to promote Lolab Valley as a prominent tourist destination to the entire nation and the world, aiming to attract tourists from all corners. The event also serves to connect the youth with various employment opportunities provided by the government in rural areas.
The breathtaking beauty of the small Himalayan valley, Lolab, located in northern Kashmir, is often described as "a Paradise within Paradise." This picturesque valley, encompassed by deciduous trees that offer a vibrant display during the fall season, is emerging as a popular tourist spot in Kashmir. Lolab Mela 2023 which features a diverse range of cultural and sports activities spanning over a month.
Several tournaments were organized as a lead-up to the highly anticipated 'Lolab Mela,' and they received an overwhelming response from the local population, especially the youth. These events included the Lolab Cricket League (T-20), Girls Cricket League(T-10), the Lolab Football Tournament, Girls Volleyball Tournament, a Mega Medical Camp, and a Trekking Expedition.
The event kicked off with cultural performances by renowned artists, featuring various plays and musical events such as Dumhal dance and Rouff dance of the Kashmir region, portraying stories of saints (Islamic sages or Rishis) and contemporary or fictional figures.
The inaugural mega event was attended by Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Ms. Ayushi Sudan, IAS; SSP Kupwara Yougal Kumar Manhas, DySP Lolab Sarfaraz Bashir as well as various civilian and army dignitaries from the area.
Locals enthusiastically explored stalls and kiosks showcasing various fields, including Horticulture, Agriculture, Tourism, Handlooms, and more. Children enjoyed local cuisine offered by various stalls from restaurants Lolab as well as from outside the Lolab, while indulging in amusement rides and games.
The event is making a lasting impression on the large audience, and the traders, shopkeepers, and youths applauded the efforts of the Indian Army and District Administration to promote Lolab as the next tourist hotspot. They also appreciated the opportunities provided to youth to nurture their hidden talents in various games and cultural programs.
