Teachers Online Training: NISHTHA Slow Internet Speed

November 13, 2020 | Haroon Rashid Bhat

Keeping in view the importance of teacher’s role in the teaching-learning process, the HRD Ministry now with the new name Ministry of Education conducts various Teacher Training Programs from time to time, invest valuable time and resources in its efforts not only to develop or improve teaching skills of teachers but also make them competent in their related field or subject.

Such initiatives are always appreciated by all stakeholders including the teacher community. As human society has entered into the postmodern stage where discoveries and inventions changed our life radically, such training sessions gained more significance. These training sessions develop the professional stability of teachers and at the same time, it keeps them up-to-date.
One such training program has been recently initiated by the Department of School Education Jammu and Kashmir in collaborations with the National Council of Education and Research Training through a digital platform popularly known as- DIKSHA (digital Infrastructure for knowledge Sharing platform) which offers teachers, students, and parents learning material relevant to the prescribed school curriculum. Here, teachers have access to aids like lesson plans, worksheets, and activities to create enjoyable classroom experiences. Students understand concepts, revise lessons, and do practice exercises. Even Parents can follow classroom activities and clear doubts outside school hours. Now, the School Education Department utilizing the services of the same platform and initiated the training for school teachers which is abbreviated as NISHTHA- 2020 (National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement)
This particular training program is module-based, designed by the highly professional academician of international repute. Since its main aim is to build competencies among all the teachers and school Heads, the teacher community at large is very much excited about its online procedure which is directly dependent upon the most advanced mode of communication that is internet.
But unfortunately, the slow internet speed in most of the districts in the union territory of Jammu Kashmir creates a lot of inconvenience to the teacher trainees. As the modules are specially designed by experts, which include activity-based learning and video lectures. While performing those activities online or playing those videos, it not only consumes more time but also hampers its audio and video quality due to the slow internet speed. This problem brings more hindrance for those trainees who are attending these online training sessions where the internet signals are already weak because of the poor infrastructure like non-availability of telephone towers etc.
To achieve the actual goal of this particular training program, there is a need to develop a favorable and motivating environment so the standard of the training should be ensured. As we all know that this school education sector has already suffered a lot for one reason or by the other. Let the concerned authorities review the earlier decision and restore the high Internet Speed so that students, teachers will avail the modern facilities according to their choice and need.
