Govt committed to establish lasting peace in J&K & completely eliminate terrorism’
New Delhi, Jan 8: Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday while chairing a security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir said terror eco system in the Union Territory has been crippled and asked security forces to ensure that gains achieved after abrogation of Article 370 are sustained and “we achieve the goal of ‘terror free J&K’ at the earliest”.
Amit Shah chaired a security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi today. J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary, Director (IB), Chief Secretary & Director General Police of Jammu and Kashmir, Heads of CAPFs and other Senior Officers were present in the meeting.
Shah said under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India is committed to establish lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir and completely eliminate terrorism.
Reiterating the zero tolerance policy against terrorism, the Home Minister said due to sustained and coordinated efforts of the Modi Government, the terror eco-system in Jammu and Kashmir has been crippled.
Shah appreciated the efforts of security agencies for strengthening the security scenario of Jammu and Kashmir.
He stated that Counter Terror (CT) Operations targeting terrorist infrastructure and terror financing in a mission mode should be continued.
The Home Minister directed all security agencies to remain alert and continue to work in synergy to ensure that the gains achieved after abrogation of Article 370 are sustained and we achieve the goal of ‘terror free J&K’ at the earliest.
He assured that all the resources will be made available in this endeavor.
The review meeting was the first high-level security review meeting on the union territory in 2026. The meeting follows aggressive winter operations launched by J&K Police and the security forces in the mountains and remote areas of the Jammu region to track down terrorists hiding there.
Sources said senior officers briefed the Home Minister about various aspects of the situation, including the steps taken during winters to ensure zero infiltration on the LoC and the IB and the elimination of hiding terrorists in the mountainous areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the past few months, security forces have engaged terrorists in several encounters in the upper reaches of Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur and other districts of the region as the infiltration attempts by the terrorists have been foiled on the LoC and the IB during this period.
