Testing mandatory for patients, attendants at Kashmir hospitals

January 14, 2022 | BK News Service

Amid a sharp spike in infections and threat of the new variant Omicron of the novel coronavirus, there will be no entry of patients and attendants into Kashmir’s hospitals without COVID-19 testing.
In a circular issued on Thursday, Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Mushtaq A Rather asked all Chief Medical Officers, Block Medical Officers and Medical Superintendents across the valley to ensure COVID-19 SOPs are implemented at the health facilities in their respective jurisdictions in view of the new threat and overall spike in cases.
Kashmir on Tuesday reported the first cases of the highly infectious Omicron including an expecting mother from Uri area in north Kashmir's Baramulla district while daily new cases are shooting through the roof.
"Besides, they will ensure that no patient/attendant is allowed in the hospital premises unless and until RAT testing is undertaken and masks are put on face by them properly, " the circular reads.
"However, in case of dire emergencies, need based protocols should be followed," it adds.
It was another bleak day for Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday which recorded five fatalities due to Covid-19 with a steep spike in daily cases.
Officials said 1966 new cases were reported in the union territory in past 24 hours with 1077 cases in Kashmir and 889 cases in Jammu.
Five more patients who had contracted the deadly virus died in past 24 hours with two new deaths in Jammu division and three in Kashmir.
