In the past, many internal and external factors had culminated in a pervasive sense of disconnection among the youth. This void had a profound impact, fostering a lack of national responsibility among the Kashmiri youth. The younger generation had a limited understanding of nationhood, often struggling with an internal-external dichotomy. They would harbour one set of feelings inwardly while presenting a different facade outwardly. This dichotomy resulted from various factors that had long plagued the society. The most significant among these factors was the insidious influence of radicalism, which had been systematically inculcated through a multi-pronged approach. Initially, the existing environment laid the groundwork, followed by the establishment of certain schools, which further reinforced these radical ideologies. The final nail in the coffin was the fiery sermons delivered by radical clerics, who selectively misinterpreted Quranic verses to suit their limited and misguided worldview, ignoring the broader context and meaning of these verses. This glaring lack of awareness regarding their national obligations had created a void, which was subsequently exploited by radical elements, sowing the seeds of anti-national sentiments. However, a nascent narrative is emerging, seeking to awaken the youth to the paramount importance of national pride, self-discovery and the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir. The youth of Kashmir are presently poised at a critical juncture torn under, by the conflicting ideologies of radicalization and the clarion call of national pride. It is imperative to guide them towards a trajectory that fosters peace, love and national unity. The nascent narrative must underscore the vital importance of national responsibility, self-discovery and the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir, thereby empowering the youth to make informed choices and wiser decisions.
The familiar Kashmiri youth has been fed a distorted version of Islam, one that emphasizes the supremacy of Shariah law and fuels anti-national sentiments. The vociferous movies, politicians and harmful elements have created a disconnection between the nation and its heroes. The youth are caught in a web of radical ideologies that threaten to undermine the very fabric of Kashmir's society. Radicalization has become a significant concern in Kashmir, with many youths falling prey to its ideologies. The spread of radical literature, social media propaganda and the influence of radical elements have all contributed to this growing menace. Addressing this issue and promoting a counter-narrative emphasizing peace, love, and national unity is essential. The effects of radicalization are far-reaching, causing harm not only to the individual but also to society. It leads to a breakdown in social cohesion, promotes violence and hatred and undermines national integrity. It is essential to recognize the dangers of radicalization and take steps to prevent its spread. The situation in Kashmir is concerning, with anti-national elements being infiltrated into government services that have been promoting a culture of hatred and subversion. These individuals often misuse religious teachings to justify their actions, undermining national integrity. The LG government's efforts to dismiss those involved in anti-national activities are commendable and should continue. However, a more comprehensive approach is needed to address the root causes of radicalization and anti-national sentiments.
To address these pressing concerns, it is imperative to implement sweeping reforms that cultivate a culture of national responsibility, self-discovery and reverence for national heroes. This can be achieved through a multi-pronged approach.
Prohibiting literature that espouses hatred and subversion can effectively stem the tide of radical ideologies and foster a culture of peace, coexistence and mutual understanding.
Sufism, emphasizing unconditional love, tolerance and compassion, can be a powerful counter-narrative to radicalization. By promoting Sufi practices, we can nurture a culture of peace, empathy and national pride where individuals can thrive and grow.
Educating the youth about national heroes and the significance of national integrity can instil a sense of responsibility and pride in their nation. This can be achieved through initiatives such as national flag-hoisting ceremonies, patriotic events and educational programs that celebrate the rich cultural heritage and history of the nation. The reforms must be comprehensive, multi-faceted and far-reaching, addressing the root causes of radicalization and anti-national sentiments. They must promote a culture of peace, love and national unity and take concrete steps to prevent the spread of radical ideologies, thereby ensuring a brighter future for future generations. Implementing these reforms can alter the social hierarchy in Kashmir, creating a more inclusive and nationalist society. This shift can be compared to the post-2019 era, where a new narrative of nationalism and development emerged. The youth of Kashmir deserve a better future, one that is built on the principles of national responsibility, self-discovery and a culture of peace and coexistence. The new social hierarchy must promote a culture of peace, love, and national unity, and concrete steps must be taken to prevent the spread of radical ideologies. It must emphasize the importance of national responsibility, self-discovery and the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir.
Education plays a vital role in shaping the minds of the youth and promoting a culture of national responsibility and self-discovery. It is essential to revamp the education system in Kashmir, incorporating courses that promote nationalism, patriotism and the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir. The education system must also encourage critical thinking, analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, enabling the youth to make informed decisions and think critically about the issues affecting their society. Research initiatives should be undertaken in schools and other educational institutions, including Darasgahs religious institutions to shed light on the lives and teachings of Sufi personalities. This will empower students to distinguish between the realities of Islam and the distorted narratives perpetuated by radical elements. By doing so, we can prevent the spread of radicalism and foster a more inclusive and pluralistic society. Currently, students in these institutions are often fed a biased and radicalized interpretation of Islam, which can lead them to become mini-anti-national elements. This is mainly due to the influence of Deobandi teachers and literature, which often denigrate Sufis as polytheistic and misrepresent the actual teachings of Islam. There is a pressing need to delve deeper into the lives and teachings of Sufi personalities to share their inspiring stories and promote a more pluralistic and inclusive society. This can be achieved by creating educational programs and resources that highlight the contributions and wisdom of Sufi masters, such as the revered Pir-Waer Abode of Masters.
Community leaders are vital in promoting a culture of national responsibility and self-discovery in Kashmir. They must lead in promoting Sufi practices, banning radical literature and encouraging nationalism. Community leaders must also work closely with the government and other stakeholders to promote a culture of peace and coexistence in Kashmir. They must encourage the youth to participate in community service, volunteer work and other activities that promote national responsibility and self-discovery.
The government is vital in promoting a culture of national responsibility and self-discovery in Kashmir. It must take concrete steps to ban radical literature, promote Sufi practices and encourage nationalism. The government must also work closely with community leaders and other stakeholders to promote a culture of peace and coexistence in Kashmir. It must provide resources and support to community-based initiatives that promote national responsibility and self-discovery.

The awakening of a new narrative in Kashmir is a journey of self-discovery and national pride. It requires a collective effort from the government, community leaders and the people of Kashmir. By promoting Sufi practices, banning radical literature, and encouraging nationalism, we can create a brighter future for Kashmir and its people. The time for change is now, and we must seize this moment to shape a new narrative for Kashmir built on the principles of peace, love and national pride. We must work together to promote a culture of national responsibility, self-discovery and respect for national heroes.
