"The Indian army successfully opened the borders for local, national, and international tourists, despite the challenges involved. This accomplishment depicts a win-win situation, allowing tourists to visit while also mitigating the risk of infiltration across the borders."
The role of the Indian Army at the Line of control is very big and wide. They not only protect us from infiltration and cross-border terrorism but also provide a helping hand and assistance to border people. The line of control (LOC) is the line that separates PoK and the Indian side of Jammu and Kashmir. It lies on the western side and the Line of Actual (LAC) separates the former Indian-administered JK and Aksai Chin (China-occupied J&K) and it lies on the eastern side. The line of control is the de facto border between India and Pakistan in the region of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a highly militarized zone and the Indian army has a crucial role in defending the Indian side of the LOC.
While defending LOC a forward deployment has to be maintained with heavy troops, artillery, and other military assets. This exercise involves the positioning of troops with full types of equipment in tough locations that too hidden with a constant vigil on the other side from any military shelling or terrorist infiltration. The border has remained a track for terrorism and it was very difficult to protect it from infiltration during heavy winter especially. Nowadays Indian army is equiped with surveillance and intelligence to monitor the activities alongside LOC. They have special techniques and are ready for any reiteration and counter-operation to prevent militants from crossing the LOC. Soldiers in these border areas are patrolling the areas and have a strong vigil. Last some years witnessed zero infiltration due to the infrastructure created by the Indian army at LOC.
Indian army besides providing security also provides humanitarian assistance to the border people. As we know, these people are backward and mostly cut off during winter due to heavy snow and blockade. Indian army, besides protecting people from shelling and firing, protects them from every eventuality and provides them immediate assistance. Indian army conducts regular medical camps, veterinary camps, and relief operations in remote border areas to provide healthcare services and relief to the local population. Army undertakes various community developments to promote socio-economic infrastructure. Indian army has established schools, vocational training centers, and initiatives to promote sustainability and livelihood opportunities. Today, we see a strong tie between the army and the border population; it is all due to their civic action programs, such as constructing small bridges, building first aid centers and lifting pregnant women, and supporting students for outside education.
It is important to note that in the last few years’ strong relationships between Jawan, aur Awam have made infiltration at zero level. This bond of relationship creates further avenues for the backward border people by opening various border tourist places in Kashmir. This provides an opportunity for tourists to experience the unique culture, history, and natural beauty of the border regions while also creating awareness about the strategic importance of the border areas. The Indian Army also promotes cultural exchange programs in border areas to promote understanding and goodwill among the local population. This includes organizing cultural events, sports competitions, and other activities that foster mutual respect, understanding, and camaraderie between the army personnel and the local communities.
It is pertinent to mention here that situation along the LOC is dynamic and varies from time to time. The plan and strategies implemented by the Indian army in defending the LOC have yielded tremendous results in shutting down the infiltration at LOC. This is because; the Indian army maintains a strong physical presence, movements and networking of military posts, bunkers and observations across the border. The army at LOC works in close coordination with other agencies. This helps in gaining public support and enhanced the trust of the local population in the security and the Indian army.
Overall, the Indian army employs a multi-faceted approach to make the border more protective from the infiltration bid. Due o enhancement in modern technologies and strengthening border infrastructure infiltration is at the lowest ebb. No doubt, our borders are very tight and the Indian army along with other security forces provide safety and security but there is a lot to enhance at both LOC and LAC. There is an immediate need of enhancing border fencing, and implement modern surveillance equipment and instruments to detect infiltration.
