In the modern era which is dominated by the internet, habits that are good for us are slowly fading away. Among these habits is the habit of reading. While the folks are preoccupied with scrolling through floating social media posts, only a few of us read. It is a plight that only a few are seen reading. But, what does reading books truly do? Is it worth it? It's a widely accepted fact that reading is healthy for the brain. When you pick a book up, and start to read, you brain gets re-wired. You come across new words, you learn them and it turns out to be an amelioration of communication skills and vocabulary and acquisition of knowledge. Reading irrefutably helps you broaden the horizons of your mind, undoubtedly sharpens your intellectual faculties and without any doubt helps you to acquire the ability to think critically. Not only that, but it proves to be a great excercise for the mind. It is reading that humanizes humanity. Be it poetic verses, or a great prosaic work or any work of non-fiction, a book turns out to be your ultimate best-friend, helping you to enhance your personality. It is my conviction that literature is the metaphorical, figurative mirror which reflects the human society, helping you to gain an in-depth insight into your inner-self and the society. A book is a beacon of hope, the shining light— able to help you in the darkest of night. Even our religion Islam lays stress upon the pursuit of knowledge, which cannot be acquired through killing time and doing futile activities but through understanding and reading of books— and the unboxing of a good book is far times greater than unboxing a brand new iphone. Taking all this into account, i hope my words will resonate with every person and that they will be readers. For, today's Readers will be tomorrow's leaders. I now conclude with quoting Mark Twain-"The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read".
