Unidentified burglars decamped with cash and gold worth over Rs 20 lakh from a residential house in the Imran Gali area of Mehjoor Nagar locality in Srinagar, sending shockwaves across the neighborhood.
Ghulam Nabi Langoo, the owner of the targeted house, told Kashmir News Trust that the thieves broke into his home during the night hours and fled with Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and a significant quantity of gold ornaments, including 23 gold rings. Langoo estimated the stolen gold’s value to be over Rs 20 lakh.
“This gold belonged to my daughters. They are in complete shock after the incident. We are devastated by the loss,” Langoo said, urging authorities to track down the culprits swiftly.
He said a formal complaint has been lodged at the concerned police station and expressed confidence in the police, hoping the culprits will be arrested soon. “We have full faith in the law enforcement agencies and expect them to solve this case at the earliest,” he added.
Following the complaint, a police team visited the scene of the crime and took stock of the situation. Officials have initiated an investigation and are likely to examine CCTV footage from the vicinity and question possible witnesses in the area.
The victims have appealed to the police to expedite the probe, saying the emotional and financial toll on the family is immense.
Meanwhile, when contacted, a police official said the case is being overseen by a senior officer and expressed hope that it will be solved without delay.
