Earlier this week, LG Manoj Sinha has introduced an impressive fleet of electric buses in Srinagar, with the primary aim of easing the city's public transportation. These eco-friendly e-buses have been strategically deployed on 14 designated routes, each operating on a fixed schedule, while efforts are underway to establish a robust charging infrastructure.
Currently, 49 out of the total 75 e-buses are in operation, making use of the existing charging station in Batwara, which has the capacity to accommodate 32 buses. Additional charging facilities are in development at Batamaloo and Humhama, with the possibility of further expansion through outsourced implementation.
The introduction of this state-of-the-art e-bus fleet promises to transform Srinagar's long-neglected mass transit system, providing essential connectivity between the city and Budgam, and the potential for future expansion into Ganderbal.
These modern red e-buses, a part of the Smart City project, come equipped with cutting-edge features, including ultra-high-definition dash cameras, passenger-friendly stop push buttons, and special accessibility features for passengers with disabilities. Notably, these e-buses are zero-emission, aligning with eco-friendly principles.
To facilitate commuters, a smartphone app is available for real-time bus tracking, and the buses are equipped with built-in CCTV surveillance systems to enhance safety. Elevators and ramps are also provided for passengers with limited mobility.
The ultimate goal is to have a bus arrive at each stop every 25 minutes, though achieving this may take some time. While the initial 14 routes have been defined, there is potential for route adjustments in the future. Here is the list of the 14 designated routes:
TRC to Pandach via various stops
TRC to Harwan via various stops 3A. Panta Chowk to TRC 3B. TRC to Soura via various stops
Pantha Chowk to Railway Station 5B.
Chadoora to Rambagh (Era Complex) via various stops 6A. Hazratbal to Batamaloo Road via various stops 6B. Batamaloo to Budgam via various stops
