Tourist Traffic Violations Raise Safety Concerns in Kashmir's Sonamarg

January 05, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Ganderbal, Jan 5: Tourist violations of traffic rules at Sonamarg, Central Kashmir, have sparked safety concerns amid slippery roads due to fresh snowfall. Eyewitnesses reported tourists engaging in stunt driving, leaning out of moving vehicles, dancing on roads, and taking selfies in traffic, endangering themselves and others.

Authorities noted that many visitors disregarded traffic rules, causing obstructions and unsafe conditions on narrow, icy roads. The risk of accidents has increased with the snowfall.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Traffic, Gulzar Ahmed, intervened on-site, counselling tourists and advising them to enjoy Sonamarg responsibly. He also instructed drivers to use anti-skid chains and warned that violations could attract strict legal action.

Traffic police urged visitors to follow safety norms, cooperate with enforcement agencies, and respect local conditions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
