Every nation is governed by its Constitution and laws of the land. Traffic laws are an integral part of entire judicial process. Every conscious and law abiding citizen should uphold the sanctity and credibility of these laws. But unfortunately, the violations of traffic laws in our UT have now reached alarming proportions. The recent episode of youngsters making videos on the Rambagh flyover has shaken the civilized society. The subsequent intervention by our traffic police is welcome step in this regard. Having said that we as a civil society hardly respect traffic rules and regulations. We do not even care for emergency services like ambulances, not to talk of common masses. The law of the land must exercise its might & crush every traffic violation with full vigor.
Firstly, a driver is supposed to be the epitome of maturity and patience. Talking honestly, having driving experience of more than four years, I have seen majority of drivers driving in panic and confusion. Every driver is in such a panic mode, as emergencies have unfolded in every household. We do not allow any passerby to cross with safety and security. Every road is witnessing driving competition between impatient drivers. You can easily gauge the impatience of the driving community at red lights. I do not have an iota of doubt that majority of accidents occur due to over-speeding and impatience. Ultimately our vehicles are machines, which can suffer any technical fault at any point of time. A driver is supposed to drive in such a speed, so that the vehicle can be easily controlled in case of emergencies. When a driver resorts to over-speeding, his nervous system does not work properly. He fails to distinguish between clutch and break in case of any eventuality. Now a days, we can witness how our youngsters’ loose lives due to stunts and over-speeding. Scotties are being driven with utter disregard to personal safety as well to others. Now people have developed fear of Scotties not tippers. Every time an accident occurs when a driver drives foolishly.
Secondly, the law enforcing apparatus have to exercise their official duties and obligations. Our police department is one of the professional & excellent forces in the country. They have always proved their merit and mettle. The credible action taken by our traffic police is always remarkable. The recent traffic violations have been handled in a pragmatic way. The traffic violators should not be given any relaxation in order to set examples for others. At the same time it is the duty of UT administration to create appropriate parking spaces in every area particularly in our Srinagar city. Their is still lack of parking spaces around commercial establishments in urban areas. The business community aa well as common masses suffer due to lack of proper parking spaces.
Lastly, we do hope that necessary interventions will be initiated on the part of UT administration as well as traffic police to create efficient atmosphere for safety & security on our roads.
