
Pushes for faster project execution in J&K
Minister for Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, chaired a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat to review and fast-track welfare initiatives for tribal communities in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting focused on accelerating ongoing projects, schemes, and infrastructure development aimed at empowering the tribal population.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Secretary TAD, Secretary Health & Medical Education, Commissioner SMC, Deputy Commissioners, and other senior officials.
Minister Rana reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and social justice, especially for tribal communities. He highlighted the importance of uplifting marginalized groups and stressed collective responsibility towards their progress.
Key discussions revolved around resolving land issues for Gujjar-Bakerwal hostels, vital for providing educational and residential support to tribal students. The Minister directed concerned departments to establish effective coordination for the swift execution of infrastructure projects and assured that land identification for hostels in Srinagar, Jammu, and Poonch is underway with resolution expected within 10 days. He emphasized that these hostels must have adequate facilities to create a nurturing environment.
Progress on the Tribal Bhawan in Jammu was reviewed, with directions to identify suitable land immediately, noting that funds have been transferred to the Jammu Development Authority.
On Human Resource management, Minister Rana stressed the urgent need to fill vacancies within the Tribal Affairs Department to enhance administrative efficiency and service delivery.
The Minister also acknowledged the deployment of Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) to improve healthcare access in remote tribal areas. Secretary Health reported that six MMUs are ready for deployment, with more units under progress.
Rana called for judicious use of resources and transparency in executing welfare schemes and reiterated the government’s resolve to empower tribal communities through better education, healthcare, and livelihood opportunities.
