Tulip garden boosts Kashmir tourism

February 23, 2026 | BK News Service

Srinagar, Feb 22: The grand opening of the iconic Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden has reignited optimism across the tourism sector, with local tour operators expressing confidence that this year’s spring season will witness a substantial rise in visitor arrivals.

Nestled along the foothills of the Zabarwan range and offering a breathtaking view of the serene Dal Lake, the Tulip Garden is widely regarded as the crown jewel of Kashmir’s spring attractions. Recognized as Asia’s largest tulip garden, it draws lakhs of tourists annually during its limited blooming window, transforming Srinagar into a vibrant tapestry of colors.
Tour operators in Srinagar said the opening of the garden traditionally marks the formal commencement of the tourism season in the Valley. According to stakeholders, advance bookings for hotels, houseboats, and guided tours have already shown a noticeable uptick.
“The tulip bloom acts as a catalyst for the entire tourism industry. We are receiving encouraging inquiries from metropolitan cities and even from abroad. If the current trend continues, this season could outperform the previous year,” said a prominent tour operator.
Industry insiders noted that the positive momentum is not limited to travel agencies alone. The ripple effect is expected to benefit hoteliers, shikara operators, transporters, artisans, and local vendors. Markets around the Boulevard Road are already witnessing increased activity, with shopkeepers preparing for higher tourist footfall.
Tourism stakeholders also highlighted that the annual tulip show enhances Kashmir’s brand image as a premier spring destination. Visitors not only explore the floral spectacle but also extend their itineraries to other attractions such as Mughal gardens, heritage sites, and scenic destinations across the Valley.
Authorities have reportedly put in place comprehensive arrangements to ensure smooth management of crowds, including traffic regulation, parking facilities, sanitation drives, and enhanced security measures. Efforts are also being made to promote responsible tourism and maintain the ecological balance of the garden area.
With thousands of tulips in full bloom, the garden stands as a symbol of renewal and economic hope for many families dependent on tourism. As Srinagar welcomes visitors from across the country, local operators remain hopeful that the vibrant spring spectacle will translate into sustained growth and a robust tourism season ahead.
