Two booked for firecracker ban violation in Shopian

August 07, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Shopian, Aug 6 : Police in Shopian have registered two FIRs against individuals for bursting firecrackers during marriage ceremonies in violation of the district magistrate's prohibitory orders, officials said.
FIR No(s). 148/2026 and 151/2026 were lodged at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been initiated, they said.
The violators have been booked under relevant sections for contravening the District Magistrate's order prohibiting use of firecrackers across the district, officials added.
The ban was imposed by the district administration citing public safety concerns, severe noise pollution, health hazards and the possibility of high-intensity sounds causing confusion among security forces engaged in anti-terror operations.
A police spokesperson said the prohibitory orders continue to remain in force and will be enforced strictly. "Any person found violating these orders shall face legal action as warranted under law," the spokesperson said.
The public has been advised to cooperate with the administration and police by adhering to the restrictions and ensuring all social and public events are conducted in accordance with the law.
