
Srinagar police on Saturday evening arrested two persons and recovered a substantial quantity of banned pharmaceutical capsules along with cash from their possession in the Habbakadal–Gowkadal area of the city. The arrests followed a brief chase after the suspects attempted to flee upon noticing a police patrol.
According to officials, a patrol team from Police Station Kral Khud observed two individuals moving suspiciously from Gowkadal towards Ganpatyar. When signalled to stop, the duo tried to escape but were intercepted and apprehended by the alert police personnel.
The accused were identified as Zameer Ahmed, resident of Basant Bhag, and Irfan Ahmed, resident of Ganpatyar. During a personal search, police recovered 40 capsules of Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus, 32 capsules of Spas Core-Von Plus, and ₹12,200 in cash from Zameer. From Irfan, 16 capsules of Spas Core-Von Plus and 28 capsules of Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus were seized.
the contraband substances were sealed on the spot as per legal procedures, and both individuals were taken into custody. Police have registered a case under FIR No. 25/2025 at Police Station Kral Khud under sections 8/22–29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
A police spokesperson said that the duo was allegedly involved in the illicit trade of banned prescription drugs in Srinagar city. “Further investigation has been initiated to identify and apprehend the source and distribution network linked to the seized narcotics,” the spokesperson said.
Police have reiterated their commitment to intensify anti-drug operations and urged citizens to share information about such activities to help curb the menace of substance abuse in the Valley.
