Hundreds of candidates appearing in the Preliminary examination of the Combined Competitive Examination for Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services are facing uncertainty as the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission has not clarified whether the examination scheduled for December 7 will be held as planned or postponed.
A large number of aspirants currently staying in Delhi and other States and Union Territories said they are unable to plan their return to Kashmir due to the absence of any official communication from the Commission. They said that no admit cards for the scheduled date had been uploaded so far, deepening apprehensions about a possible rescheduling of the examination.
Candidates said the uncertainty has created serious logistical and financial stress, as many have already made travel arrangements which may go waste if the examination is postponed at the last moment. Several aspirants said they are constantly monitoring official channels but have received no update regarding their status.
An attempt to seek a formal clarification from the Commission did not yield any response. However, official sources said the Commission was awaiting a decision from the Government on representations submitted by candidates seeking relaxation in the upper age limit.
Sources explained that while the Government is the competent authority to frame or amend recruitment rules, including age criteria, the Public Service Commission is responsible for issuing notifications, conducting the examination and submitting the final selection list for appointments. According to officials, as of Sunday, no directions had been received from the Government regarding any change in age criteria or postponement of the examination.
“If we receive communication from the Government regarding age relaxation, the exam will be postponed and rescheduled on a suitable date,” an official source said.
Candidates appealed to the authorities to issue an immediate clarification to avoid last-minute hardship, especially for aspirants who are currently outside Jammu and Kashmir.
