Srinagar, July 18: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale on Saturday said Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a new phase of development and stressed that sustained peace, inclusive growth and social justice remain essential for the region's long-term progress.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, the Republican Party of India (Athawale) leader highlighted a range of national and regional issues, including development initiatives, employment generation, social welfare and the need to strengthen democratic institutions in Jammu and Kashmir.
Athawale said the Centre remains committed to ensuring that the benefits of development reach every section of society, particularly Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and economically weaker communities. He stressed the importance of effective implementation of welfare schemes aimed at improving education, skill development, employment opportunities and social security.
Referring to Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister said sustained peace is crucial for economic growth, investment and tourism. He expressed confidence that the region would continue to progress through improved infrastructure, better connectivity and enhanced public services.
The Union Minister also underlined the need to empower youth through education, entrepreneurship and skill development programmes, saying employment generation should remain a key priority. He urged young people to take advantage of various Central Government initiatives designed to promote self-employment and livelihood opportunities.
Highlighting the role of social harmony, Athawale called for unity among all communities and said inclusive development is essential for building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
He reiterated the Centre's commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of marginalised sections and said the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment would continue implementing programmes aimed at improving their socio-economic conditions.
Responding to questions from media persons on national issues, Athawale said the government remains focused on economic growth, social welfare and strengthening democratic institutions while ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens.
The press conference was attended by party functionaries, local leaders and media representatives, during which Athawale also interacted with journalists on issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir and the country's overall development.
