Unscheduled power cuts have resurfaced in downtown Srinagar areas, including Wazapora and MR Gunj, causing widespread inconvenience to inhabitants despite the installation of smart meters and upgraded power cables.
Locals said that frequent and unexplained outages are being witnessed in the area under Feeder 2 of Sub Division MR Gunj, even though the infrastructure has been fully upgraded. Locals said the power supply disruptions have intensified in recent days, affecting households and routine activities.
According to locals, a delegation had visited the chief office of the Power Development Department last week, where officials assured them that approval for round-the-clock power supply had already been granted. However, the assurances have not translated into stable electricity supply on the ground, they said.
Locals expressed concern that despite investments in smart meters and new cabling, they continue to face prolonged and unscheduled outages. They said the situation becomes particularly difficult during winter when electricity is crucial for heating, lighting, and basic domestic needs.
Locals urged the concerned authorities to look into the issue urgently, restore uninterrupted power supply as promised, and clarify the reasons behind the frequent power cuts in the area.
