The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has urged all driving licence holders and registered vehicle owners across the country to update their mobile numbers on the Vahan and Sarathi portals to ensure their personal records remain complete and accurate.

According to the advisory, updating the registered mobile number is essential for maintaining correct and up to date records related to driving licences and vehicle registrations. Officials said that having an active mobile number linked to documents would help vehicle owners and drivers receive timely alerts, acknowledgements, and service-related updates.
The government has provided a fully online facility for updating mobile numbers, allowing people to complete the process without visiting Regional Transport Offices. Vehicle owners can update their details on the Vahan portal, while driving licence holders can do so through the Sarathi portal.
Authorities stated that outdated or incorrect mobile numbers could lead to communication gaps during transactions or while accessing critical transport services. The initiative aims to promote digital compliance and ease of access while reducing dependence on physical visits to transport offices.
Officials have appealed to people not to delay in updating their details and ensure that their documents remain valid and accessible through official records.
The transport department has advised users to rely only on the official portals for updating personal information and avoid sharing details on unofficial platforms.
