
Bandipora-Gurez road closed
The Upper reaches of Kashmir experienced fresh snowfall on Sunday evening while rains lashed the plains on Monday.
An official said Razdan Pass, gateway of Gurez valley in North Kashmir's Bandipora district recorded around 1 feet snow.
After the snowfall, the only road link connecting the Gurez valley with the rest of Valley was closed for vehicular traffic.
A MeT official said the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg also recorded about four inches of fresh snowfall during the night.
“Zojilla Pass, Amarnath cave shrine, Sonamarg, Gurez and many other areas in upper reaches also experienced fresh snowfall,” he said.
The plains of the valley including Srinagar received heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, Director Metrological Department Sonam Lotus said there was possibility of light snow over higher reaches of Gulmarg, Gurez and Tulail area of Baramulla and Bandipora districts respectively, alongside with Sonamarg and Drass during next 4-6 hours.
“As expected a feeble Western Disturbance approached J&K on October 10. Under its influence, light rain over plains of North Western parts of Kashmir valley (Tangdar, Kupwara, Handwara, Bandipora, Uri, Baramula and central Kashmir) and Poonch districts and adjoining areas of Jammu Division is occurring as per current radar and satellite images,” he said.
Lotus said there is no possibility of snow or rain in Kashmir for next 24 hours
“However, weather will remain cloudy till Tuesday and will likely remain dry from Wednesday,” he added.
