
In a dynamic initiative blending sports with social responsibility, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Udhampur, organized a District-Level Inter-Zonal/Inter-School Kabaddi Tournament for Under-14 and Under-17 students today at the Mini Stadium, Udhampur.
The event was formally inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, accompanied by District Youth Services & Sports Officer (DYSSO) Romesh Chander Mishra.
Addressing the gathering, DC Saloni Rai extended her best wishes to all the young participants and commended DYSSO Udhampur for successfully organizing the event. She praised the decision to link the tournament with the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, calling it a commendable and visionary step that promotes not just physical fitness, but also supports mental well-being and social awareness among the youth.
Highlighting the broader value of co-curricular activities, she stated, “Sports play a crucial role in the holistic development of students. Events like these foster discipline, teamwork, and a positive outlook on life, while also equipping our youth to become responsible citizens.”
The DC also urged students to act as brand ambassadors in the fight against drug abuse, encouraging them to contribute actively toward building a healthy, drug-free society.
Following her address, all participants took a solemn pledge to support the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, reinforcing their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle. The inaugural ceremony concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, adding a patriotic touch to the occasion.
