
Celebrate local sports talent
The grand finals of Volleyball, Kabaddi and Karate were conducted today at the Showkat Ali Indoor Stadium as part of the ongoing Varmul Gindo 2025 sports festival. The event witnessed an overwhelming response from the local community, with over 1000 spectators in attendance. In the Volleyball finals, Amargarh Volleyball Club emerged victorious over Uri Volleyball Club in the boys’ category, while KIC Srinagar defeated KIC Baramulla to claim the girls’ title. Both matches showcased excellent skill and sportsmanship, with 28 participants in each category.
The Senior Men's Kabaddi final saw Harmukh Warriors secure a well-fought victory against United North Kashmir, with a total of 24 participants competing. Karate events were also held with a total of 16 matches and 25 participants; the results are currently being compiled.
At the GDC ground, the football match between Hyder FC and Dash FC commenced at 1730 hours. With 24 participants, the match attracted 180–200 spectators, with more joining in as the game progressed.
The day’s events were graced by several dignitaries. Brigadier Rajat Mohan Bhatt, PhD, Commander 19 Artillery Brigade, was the Chief Guest. Other notable guests included Mr. Altaf Ahmed, Additional Deputy Commissioner; Mr. Tariq Ahmed Chalkoo, Principal, GDC; and Mr. Zahoor Ahmed Wani, District Youth Services and Sports Officer.
In total, the day recorded a participation of 184 athletes and an audience strength of over 1250. The success of today’s events highlights the growing enthusiasm and positive community engagement fostered through Varmul Gindo 2025
