Srinagar, Sep 28: Peoples Democratic Party MLA Waheed Ur Rehman Para on Monday said that eight National Conference MLAs have raised questions over the statehood resolution moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

Speaking to reporters, Para questioned the exclusion of references to Articles 370 and 35A from the resolution. He said that if restoration of statehood was a priority, the issue should have been brought before the Assembly during its first session two years ago.

The remarks came as the Assembly discussed Omar Abdullah’s resolution seeking the immediate and urgent restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

The resolution refers to earlier resolutions passed by the House on June 26, 2000, and November 6, 2024, but does not explicitly mention Articles 370 and 35A.

Meanwhile, ten amendments have been submitted to the resolution. Several of these seek the inclusion of references to Articles 370 and 35A and the constitutional position that existed before August 5, 2019.

Five amendments have been listed as having been moved by NC legislators Javid Baig, Tanvir Sadiq, Ajaz Ahmed Jan, Altaf Ahmad Wani and Hilal Akbar Lone.

Para has also submitted an amendment seeking the inclusion of restoration of autonomy along with Articles 370 and 35A in the resolution.

The amendments have brought further discussion over the wording and scope of the statehood resolution as the matter remains under consideration in the Assembly.
