Wokha , Mar 20:Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding of the Spear Corps, on Friday laid the foundation stone for a war memorial at Wokha to honour soldiers from the region who made the supreme sacrifice during the Indo-Pak War of 1971.

The proposed memorial will stand as a tribute to the bravery, courage and unwavering commitment of soldiers from Nagaland who served the nation during one of the most significant conflicts in India’s military history. It aims to preserve their legacy and inspire future generations with stories of sacrifice and patriotism.
During the ceremony, Lt Gen Pendharkar highlighted the importance of remembering the contributions of soldiers from the Northeast, noting that their role in safeguarding the nation has been both historic and invaluable. He said the memorial would serve not only as a place of remembrance but also as a symbol of national pride and unity.
The GOC also took the opportunity to honour veterans from the region, acknowledging their dedicated service and continued contribution to society. Interacting with them, he expressed gratitude for their commitment and sacrifices, which continue to inspire serving personnel and citizens alike.
Senior Army officials, local dignitaries and members of the community attended the event, reflecting strong civil-military ties in the region. The initiative underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to recognising the contributions of its soldiers and preserving the rich legacy of valour across all regions of the country.
