Water crisis hits Batmaloo areas

July 08, 2026 | BK News Service

Srinagar, July 7: A prolonged disruption in the drinking water supply has triggered widespread public concern across Batmaloo and several adjoining localities of Srinagar, with affected families urging the administration to take immediate corrective measures to restore the essential service.

People living in Magarmal Bagh, SD Colony, Iqra Colony, and neighbouring areas said the shortage has persisted despite repeated representations to the concerned authorities. They alleged that their grievances have remained largely unaddressed, leaving thousands of households to struggle for potable water on a daily basis.
The continuing disruption, they said, has caused significant hardship, particularly for women, children and senior citizens, who are bearing the brunt of the crisis amid the prevailing summer conditions.
Seeking urgent intervention, the aggrieved public appealed to the Jal Shakti Department to restore regular water supply without further delay. They also requested the department to deploy water tankers to the affected localities as an interim measure until the supply network is fully restored.
The appeal further called upon the Lieutenant Governor and senior functionaries of the Jal Shakti Department to review the functioning of the officials responsible for water distribution and ensure that public grievances are addressed promptly and effectively.
Describing access to safe drinking water as a fundamental public necessity, the people urged the administration to treat the matter with urgency and provide immediate relief to the affected localities
