We Will Do It

October 08, 2026 |

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new slogan, “We will do it,” is more than a political catchphrase. It is a statement of intent at a time when India is seeking to transform its economic strength, social confidence and global standing into a developed-nation trajectory. The phrase is deliberately simple. Its power lies in its collective character. A developed India cannot be built by governments alone. It requires the participation of citizens, entrepreneurs, farmers, workers, scientists, teachers, students and institutions. “We” places the responsibility of nation-building beyond the corridors of power and turns development into a shared national mission. The idea of Viksit Bharat is ambitious. India must create millions of productive jobs, expand manufacturing, modernise agriculture, improve education and healthcare, strengthen infrastructure and ensure that growth reaches every section of society. Digital transformation, artificial intelligence, clean energy and innovation will increasingly determine economic competitiveness. But technology and investment must ultimately translate into better lives for ordinary citizens. The slogan also carries an important message of confidence. India today possesses a young population, a growing economy, expanding infrastructure and a stronger global voice. Yet confidence must not become complacency. The road to development is long and demands institutional reform, administrative efficiency, fiscal discipline and sustained investment in human capital. Most importantly, Viksit Bharat must remain inclusive. Development cannot be measured only through GDP figures, highways, airports or industrial output. It must also be reflected in the quality of schools, accessibility of healthcare, dignity of work, purchasing power of families, opportunities for young people and security of vulnerable communities. The challenge is therefore to convert a compelling slogan into measurable outcomes. “We will do it” must mean that targets are pursued with timelines, policies are implemented without unnecessary delays and public institutions remain accountable for results. India’s development story has already acquired considerable momentum. The next phase requires greater speed, stronger execution and wider participation. A slogan can inspire, but only sustained action can transform aspiration into reality.“We will do it” is therefore best understood not as a promise made by one leader, but as a challenge thrown to an entire nation. If India can combine ambition with discipline and growth with inclusion, Viksit Bharat can move from a vision to a lived reality.
