The weather improved across the Valley following recent snowfall and the flight operations at Srinagar Airport resumed on Monday after remaining suspended on Sunday.
With the improved visibility , the air traffic resumed at Srinagar airport today.
“The runway at Srinagar airport was cleared of the snow, and visibility was also good,” Director of Srinagar International Airport Javed Anjum said.
All the scheduled flights will take off from the Srinagar Airport today.
All flights to and from the Srinagar International Airport were suspended on Sunday due to poor visibility and dense fog.
The weather improved in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley after experiencing fresh snowfall and rains on Sunday.
The Meteorological Department in Srinagar has predicted isolated to scattered light rain and snow over the next 24 hours. The weather will remain dry during the next two days.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar during the night settled at minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, the MeT official said.
He said the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.5 degrees Celsius.
In Pahalgam, the minimum temperature settled at minus 1.4 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund recorded a low of zero degrees Celsius while Konibal in Pampore town registered a minimum temperature of minus 1.0 degrees.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a minimum of minus 0.3 degrees Celsius while Kokernag in south Kashmir saw the mercury settle at minus 0.4 degrees Celsius.
Kashmir is currently in the grip of ‘Chillai-Kalan’ — the harshest period of winter — that began on December 21.
During the 40 days of ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the chances of snowfall are the highest and the temperature drops considerably. ‘Chillai-Kalan’ ends on January 31, followed by a 20-day ‘Chillai-Khurd’ (small cold), and a 10-day ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold).
