What Else i can Do ?

February 11, 2024 | Dr Sheikh Arshid Ahmad

In an interview session, one of the PhD scholars appeared to be heartbroken and emotionally turbulent. The pain was evident in his kind words as he expressed the long-lasting impact of such sadness. He listed his academic qualifications, including being PhD and NET qualified, having a BEd and MEd, publishing five books, and writing numerous research papers. He also mentioned his experience of teaching in different colleges and universities. Despite his fluency and tears streaming down his cheeks, it seemed that no one truly understood his pain.

The government has recently issued an order regarding the engagement of guest faculty, which has caused injustice to the highly qualified youth of J&K. For many of them, academic arrangement is their only hope of livelihood. This kind of mockery has severely hindered the career of thousands of PhD scholars. The frustration among these scholars has reached at a high boiling point, and they are demanding that the government should revoke the order to prevent any further suffering. The increasing unemployment rate has evoked feelings of apprehension among individuals, causing someone to contemplate desperate measures. This distressing state of being, in which individuals are unable to fully adapt, can push scholars furthermore into discomfort zone.
The government asserts that they are offering excellent opportunities to educated young people, facilitating their access to suitable jobs. However, the reality on the ground does not align with these claims, as educated youth find themselves leading lives of misery. This unfortunate situation has compelled someone to turn to take illicit substances, resulting in addiction among countless young individuals. Additionally, the higher education department has already shortened the academic session by three or four months. The recent order has only aggravated the frustration of scholars who were already struggling with the way of earning livelihood.
The scholars have consistently been compelled to come to the streets in order to raise their voice against such illicit decrees, statements, and even empty promises. These distressing mandates have been issued in the past and have resulted only in feelings of despondency. Yesterday, a protest was conducted by PhD scholars outside the higher education department to express their dissatisfaction with the appointment of guest faculty until August 2024. The scholars find themselves caught in a cycle of continual disappointment, as exemplified by their ongoing demonstrations against the department.
The lack of professors in the education department has reached alarming levels. Unfortunately, the authorities seem unwilling to recognize this issue, which exacerbates the situation, especially when the education department totally relies onacademic arrangement. The scholars who were involved in the academic arrangement have expressed their discontent regarding irresponsive approach of the department , but regrettably, the department has not taken our grievances seriously, resulting in the mismanagement of the higher education department. If this continues, it could have catastrophic consequences, leading to a collapse of the system.
At the culmination of this highly flawed system, the pursuit of a PhD degree will greatly decline, leading to a shortage of research scholars and potentially destabilizing the current state of research departments. This absurd action could have a significant impact on the entire education system, and scholars may be deprived of fulfillment in their lives. It is imperative that the government recognizes the detrimental effects it is causing to society by endangering the lives of these valuable individuals.
