Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Gilgit Baltistan, which have been under the illegal control of Pakistan are witnessing and experiencing the worst crisis. The occupied part is facing a shortage of food, electricity, and medicine. Since partition, POK has been resistant to Pakistani rule and is witnessing continue protests against the Pakistan government. Pakistan has long used its resources and used PoK as a breeding ground for terrorism. This region has been used as a launch pad for the terrorists to push India.
Pakistan-occupied citizens can’t decide their legislature on their own. Every move has to be decided by Islamabad. Pakistan-occupied Kashmir provides a haven for terrorism which ultimately defame Pakistan at international levels. The current situation has not economically affected India, which seems to be doing just fine as the world’s third-largest economy.
PoK is facing environmental challenges due to the exploitation of natural resources. Pakistan invaded PoK in 1947 forcibly, this region is referred to by the United Nations and International organizations as ‘Pakistani-controlled Kashmir’
Pakistan-administered Kashmir has been kept behind the door of development. The local population of PoK continuously faces internal as well as external problems. They are being deprived of government schemes and their right to speech or expression is curbed. Their political and socioeconomic grievance forced them to sit in on mass agitations. The Pakistani government deprived the basic rights of PoK citizens. A land that suffered from basic development, infrastructure, technology, availability of jobs and investment. Pakistani army which is known for its cope, interruption and military might in indulging the enteral matters of the government and breaking all rules and regulations of democratic setup is behind these atrocities in PoK. Pakistan army made PoK a poor and deprived region to make it a training center and launchpad for the terrorists. for shelter, training and infiltration of terrorists.
PoK is a part of India side Kashmir, various prominent social and political activists are continually demanding its merger with Indian due to the development, technological boom, educational standard and economic life standard of Kashmir people in India.
In 2020, a study by the joint Indo-Pak management institute revealed contrasting lifestyles between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) (Dipanjan Roy, 2020). The study conducted by Professor Dheeraj Sharma from the Indian Institute of Management and Professor Farah Arif from the Lahore Institute of Management Sciences disclosed that the people in POK were not satisfied and happy with their lives and homeland. Most of them intended to leave their homeland for a better future and were not satisfied with their government and their expectations in terms of education, health care, and infrastructure facilities. Various other studies and instances depict the pathetic lifestyle of the people living in Pakistan’s illegally occupied Jammu-Kashmir. On the contrary, various studies like the one mentioned here, have revealed a satisfactory lifestyle for people living in the Jammu-Kashmir
Surprisingly, while going through the remarks of a citizen of Baltistan. The person wrote that This side of Kashmir is not much developed as the Indian side (I have visited India many times) but it’s much more peaceful here. Terrorist activities are less here. Pakistan's government doesn't do any developmental work here so we are left alone to develop ourselves. So, our people work in mainland Pakistan or India or abroad (I am working in Saudi) to earn and support themselves. We seriously suffer from an identity crisis. Some of us think we are Pakistanis and some of us believe we are independent. Overall, I believe we need more development here. We seriously lack infrastructure and medical facilities.
