Guiding people towards Islam & maintaining the Islamic centrifugation, the four Rashidun (rightly guided) caliphates (Khulafa in Arabic-meaning successors) were initially the sole sovereigns of the empire left behind by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).The outreigns of these Caliphates based on justice & fairness is a glorious chapter in the history of Islam, turning out to be a quintessence for the Islamic governments, established till the day of judgement. The blessed outreigns of caliphates started with the caliphate beloved Abu Bakr(rz) & ended with the outreign of Imam Ali(rz).
According to the various sources, Imam Ali (RZ) was the first among child’s to accept Islam, being 10 years old at that time. A first cousin of the Prophet (PBUH), Imam Ali (RZ) was one of the closest companions of the Prophet(PBUH ) who persistently used to be with Prophet(PBUH),directly learnt from him & also married his dearest of the daughters, Fatima (RZ).The Prophet(PBUH ) said about Imam Ali (RZ ),“I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its gate.”[Hakim Al-Mustadrak, Hadith 4637].
After perusing the sermons letters & dictums by Imam Ali(RZ), undoubtedly, one can apprize that how much he had got a miserliness in lore. In this column we will have a look at some acme instructive & inspirational maxims of his wisdom that I have accumulated from various authentic books, so that we too can blend into the amplitude of Imam Ali(RZ).
Faithfulness with faithless people is faithlessness with Allah, while faithlessness with faithless people is faithfulness with Allah.
The best deed is that for which you have to foist your self to do.
The pungency of this world is the salubriousness of the life hereafter & vice versa.
The hearts become knackered as the bodies become knackered. You should therefore search for them the beautiful dictums as a way of refreshment.
Stubbornness destroys good advice.
Destitution is the greatest death.
He who is moderate doesn't become destitute.
Loving one another is half of wisdom.
Sorrow is half of old age.
Man is recondite under his tongue.
A friend is not considered a friend unless he offers an aegis to his friend on three occasions; I n his adversity, in his absence & after his death.
One who is blessed with four things is not disallowed from four things :he who is blessed to pray is not berefted of the response to it; he who is blessed to offer repentance is not berefted of its acceptance; he who is blessed to seek forgiveness is not berefted of litany; he who is blessed to be thankful is not berefted of furtherance of favours.
I love the opinion of an aged person more than the determination of a young man.
Lack of friends means strangeness.
As intelligence increases , speech decreases.
The breath of a man is a step towards his death.
In conclusion, these sayings are truly pearls of wisdom which have an ability to inspire, guide & illuminate the readers. Rightly said by Shiekh Fadahallah,"Imam Ali's wisdom nourishes & guides us to follow our higher, divinely inspired nature, ensuring our salvation in this life & the next".
