Woman attempts self-immolation in Pratap Park

A 32-year-old woman attempted to end her life by setting herself on fire at Pratap Park in Srinagar on Saturday afternoon, triggering panic before swift intervention by locals prevented a tragedy.

Eyewitnesses said that the woman suddenly poured a flammable liquid, believed to be petrol, over her body and ignited it at one of the ends of Pratap Park. The shocking act created chaos on the spot as people rushed to understand what had happened and tried to control the situation.
Locals present in the park acted quickly and managed to stop the flames from spreading, preventing serious harm to the woman. Some witnesses said the fire was put out within seconds, while others moved the woman away from the area to ensure she was safe from further danger.
Police personnel arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted and shifted the woman to SMHS hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Hospital sources identified the woman (name withheld), a resident of Batamaloo, Srinagar.
The motive behind the extreme step remains unclear. Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an inquiry to determine the circumstances that led to the attempt
