Women a driving force behind the progress of society: Itoo

Jammu, Mar 7: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir celebrated International Women’s Day at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu, with the theme ‘Give to Gain’, highlighting the transformative role of women across all sectors. The event was organized by Mission Shakti in collaboration with the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL).

Addressing the gathering, Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, praised women for their contributions to education, healthcare, administration, entrepreneurship, science, sports, and social development. She emphasized that women are not only the backbone of families but also a driving force behind societal progress.
“An educated and empowered woman uplifts her family and community. When women progress, the nation progresses,” Minister Itoo said, citing Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as an example of leadership and determination. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities, safety, and socio-economic empowerment for women and girls.
The celebrations included a skit by Cluster University, Jammu students on “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”, highlighting the importance of girl child education. An exhibition showcased products of women entrepreneurs and Self Help Groups, alongside creative paintings by women artists.
Minister Itoo also felicitated women achievers from various fields, including sports, para-sports, entrepreneurship, administration, art and culture, child welfare, and public service. Commissioner Secretary, Forests Ecology and Environment, Sheetal Nanda, was also recognized for meritorious service.
Speaking on the occasion, Mission Director, Mission Vatsalya/Mission Shakti, Nazim Zai Khan, said the day not only celebrates women’s achievements but also reminds society of the work needed to achieve true equality.
Senior officers, social workers, women achievers, and a large number of students attended the event, which celebrated women’s resilience, creativity, and leadership while promoting empowerment initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir.
