
Ramban, Mar 8: To mark the celebration of International Women’s Day, the District Administration Ramban organized a Women Entrepreneurship Mela at GHSS Boys Banihal aimed at promoting women-led enterprises and encouraging female participation in entrepreneurship.
The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan and witnessed enthusiastic participation from women entrepreneurs, members of Self Help Groups (SHGs), unemployed youth and representatives of various government departments.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of empowering women through entrepreneurship and self-employment initiatives. He emphasized that platforms like the mela help women showcase their products, exchange ideas and gain awareness about different government schemes designed to support small enterprises and startups.
The programme was organized with the objective of promoting entrepreneurship among women and facilitating their onboarding under Mission YUVA through awareness generation, enterprise showcasing, mentoring and on-ground application support.
During the mela, several government departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, Handicrafts & Handloom, Cooperatives and Employment set up awareness stalls to disseminate information about various self-employment schemes and livelihood opportunities available for women. The stalls also displayed locally produced goods and handicraft items prepared by SHGs and women entrepreneurs.
Members of different Self Help Groups shared their success stories and experiences, inspiring other women to adopt entrepreneurial ventures and become financially independent. Their interactions motivated aspiring entrepreneurs and highlighted the role of collective efforts in achieving sustainable livelihoods.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner also distributed five sanction letters under Mission YUVA to selected beneficiaries to support them in establishing their own enterprises. In addition, five women achievers associated with Self Help Groups under the Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) were felicitated for their inspiring success stories and outstanding contribution towards promoting self-reliance and community development. The Deputy Commissioner appreciated their efforts and encouraged other women to take inspiration from their journeys and actively participate in livelihood and entrepreneurship initiatives.
Among others present on the occasion were Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramban Varunjeet Singh Charak, SDM Banihal Mohammad Naseeb Bajraan, Assistant Labour Commissioner Amit Kumar and other concerned officers.
Meanwhile, various programmes and awareness activities were also organized across different parts of the district to celebrate International Women’s Day, highlighting the achievements and contributions of women in society.
