The Wushu Sports Club Kupwara on Friday defeated Army Goodwill School Chandigam(AGS) in a close match by 3-2 to win the Kupwara Women's Volleyball Championship 24 season-II here at Hirri ground Friday in Kupwara.
Aiman Bashir of AGS Wayne grabbed “Woman of the Championship” award for scoring 75 points in five matches, while Sadaf a young and talented girl from Wushu Sports Baramulla was declared Woman of the match for her brilliant performance in the final.
She played a vital role in the victory of her team as she scored 22 points in the final match.
Both teams Army Goodwill School Chandigam(AGS) and Wushu Sports Club Kupwara had reached the final by defeating some strong teams in their pool.
The championship organised by Indian Army, was the second edition of the championship which had started on 21 Oct 2024.
The aim of the championship was to give the young girls of Kupwara, Bandipora and Baramulla a chance to showcase their talent in the field of Volleyball.
The championship witnessed participation of 10 teams from various schools and sports academies across Kupwara, Bandipora and Baramulla. The teams comprised of girls between the age group of 14 to 25.
The final was witnessed by school children and other participating teams along with locals supporting their favourite teams.
Commanding Officer (CO), Kupwara Terriers graced the occasion as Chief guest. He applauded the players for their participation and assured them for the best possible support in future also.
The CO speaking on the occasion, said, “Indian Army is committed to engage, encourage, educate and empower the women of Kupwara by supporting their endeavours and providing them opportunity to showcase their talent and make a name for themselves, their community, state and finally this great nation.”
He distributed awards to the winners and prizes among the achievers.
