
The Wushu Association of India (WAI) is organising the Selection Trials for the forthcoming 20th Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Japan from 19th September to 10th October 2026.
Preliminary Selection Trials for Sanda (combat) events will be conducted at Srinagar from 22nd to 24th August 2025, while the trials for the Taolu (form) events will be held at Imphal (Manipur) from 25th to 27th August 2025.
During these trials, the Wushu Association of India will shortlist 08 athletes in Sanda and 04 athletes in Taolu.
Following the trials, WAI in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) will organise Ranking Tournaments every two months for the shortlisted athletes until the submission of the Final Entry by Name in June 2026.
To ensure the best possible preparation
Foreign exposure training and international competitions will be arranged between the ranking events. Athletes who secure top rankings will be given priority for these exposures in view of the Asian Games.
A National Wushu Coaching Camp supported by SAI will commence from October 2025 and continue till the culmination of the Games.
The first foreign exposure training camp is scheduled for 45 days in November 2025, followed by further exposure trips in February, May, and August 2026, ensuring continuous high-level preparation.
It is noteworthy that the Wushu Association of India has consistently brought laurels to the nation in the Asian Games, winning a total of 10 medals (2 Silver and 8 Bronze) since 2006.
For the forthcoming trials:
Weigh-in and Physical Tests for participating athletes will be conducted on 22nd August 2025, followed by the bouts from 22nd to 23rd August 2025.
Earlier, the WAI, in collaboration with SAI and J&K Sports Council, successfully organised a 60-day National Wushu Coaching Camp at SKISC Srinagar in preparation for the 19th Asian Games.
