The strength of her submission was divine. It is she who proclaimed to the world the greatest and supreme sacrifice of her brother Imam Husssain (a.s) in the battle of Karbala. Who was brutally martyred along with his companions on the 10th of Moharam by the forces of yazid the son of Muawiya. Imam Hussain was followed by his family members, including women and children. He was of the intention to spread the message of Islam, humanity, peace and brotherhood, but Yazid took his visit to Kufa as political one and forced him along with his crew to stop in the deserted land of Karbala. Imam Hussain (a.s) refused to submit his will to the yazid which later led to the inhuman war. Imam Hussain and his all companions were denied of water to drink and forced to hunger since 7th of the Moharam. The crew had some innocent children who achieved martyrdom in the state of thirsty and hunger. Finally Imam Hussain (a.s) along with his 72 loyal companions got killed in this inhuman and brutal massacre of Karbala at the hands of tyrant yazid the son of Muawiya.
Lastly it was the only left son of Imam Hussain, Imam Zain-ul-Abdeen (a.s) who didn’t achieved martyrdom because of his illness, Hazrat Zaynab (sla), six to 4 year old daughter of Imam Hussain (a.s) named as Sakeena and few other ladies of the family who witnessed the whole tragedy of Karbal. They were held as captives and made to ride on camels without saddles, their faces unveiled for all the world to see, while ahead of them their captors gleefully carried the chopped off heads of their loved ones impaled on spears. Zaynab (Sla) met with all sorts of barbarism and cruel examinations by yazid in the Karbala massacre. She did not accepted the win of yazid in an unjustifiable war and despite of all the sufferings, stress and depressed state, she adopted patience as her weapon to prove yazid wrong and emerged as a strong support to her brothers and family’s cause. She encouraged every victim of her family and the ladies of the loyal worriers to stand against the yazid. She introduced herself to yazid in his court at Damascus and made him to realize what he has done to the family of Rasool (saw) in front of his courtiers from all parts of the world. He felt ashamed of his actions done by him for the sake of political gains.
Hazat Zaynab (sla) herself being a victim saw her family members getting killed one by one in an inhuman act by yazid. It is impossible to imagine what she has not faced during her long journey from Madina to Karbala then Karbala to Damascus. She exposed the evil deeds of Ibn Ziyad and Yazid with courage and fearlessness. Had it not been for her the sacrifice of Karbala might have faded into oblivion. She endured physical pain and mental torture with fortitude. It is not possible for all women to overcome their disastrous tragedies and sufferings but despite of all the tragedies she stood up, motivated and encouraged herself and other people accompanying her to the yazid’s court. She set an example for the world women how to stand for the right no matter if world is against you especially for those who face mental torture in the societies. These women must follow the footsteps of Hazrat Zaynab (sla) to overcome and deal with their all sufferings. She emerged as a flag-bearer and an iconic figure in the history of Islam. Islamic world is never going to forget her contribution even today. Her character is a source of inspiration and mobilization to women. Her stand for injustice has been adopted by women in today’s world in every aspect of life. She made the world women to realize the true value of veil (hijab).the most precious jewel for a woman. Today we see women throughout the world who have started Hijab campaigns, inspired by Zaynabia Character. Hazrat Zaynab (Sla) a model of defiance against injustice and oppression. Shining sun of patience, endurance, a role model for women to empower themselves in all sphere of life.
