
In a first-of its kind sporting initiative in Baramulla, the Baramulla Runners Club today organized the 'Zoon Run – Spirit of Baramulla' a long-distance running event that featured 10km and 5 km categories.
The event was jointly flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, and the Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Zone, Maqsood Ul Zaman in presence of DySP Headquarters, and Vice Principal of Saint Joseph’s School, Baramulla.
The event aimed to promote fitness and healthy living, and to foster the spirit of unity and sportsmanship among the youth of the region.
The run commenced from Saint Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Baramulla, and concluded at Kanispora, overwhelmingly participated by more than 200 runners belonging to diverse age groups, hailing from different districts including Jammu, Srinagar, Sopore, Ganderbal, Budgam, and Baramulla.
Speaking on the occasion, DC lauded the efforts of the organizers and highlighted the role of such events in channelizing the energy of young people towards positive and constructive pursuits.
DIG North Kashmir also commended the spirit of the participants, noting that such sporting activities go a long way in fostering unity, discipline, and a sense of healthy competition.
The successful conduct of the Zoon Run – Spirit of Baramulla has set a new milestone in the sporting journey of the district, paving the way for Baramulla to become a vibrant destination for athletic and recreational activities in the future.
