Even as questions were raised over the killing of four men, accused in the gang-rape and murder of a young veterinarian Disha (name changed), Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar on Friday stated that they were shot dead in a crossfire at Chatanpally of Shadnagar, 50 kms from here.
''Police officers had maintained restraint and fired on the accused in self-defence after the accused hit the personnel with stones and sticks, snatched police weapons and started firing, when they were taking them to reconstruct the crime scene'', Mr Sajjanar told reporters here.
Mr Sajjanar said a sub-inspector and a constable were injured in stone pelting by the accused and they were shifted them to Care hospital after providing them preliminary treatment locally. The cross-fire ensued between 0545 hours and 0615 hours, he added.
The Police Commissioner commenting on the criticism of the killing said, ''the law has done its duty...that's all I can say''
