October 25, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE
Srinagar, Oct 25: Winter chill has intensified across Jammu and Kashmir, with several parts of the Valley recording sub-zero temperatures for the first time this season.

The popular tourist destinations of Pahalgam and Gulmarg experienced their first freezing nights of the season on Sunday. Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.3°C, while Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district registered minus 0.4°C.

Shopian emerged as the coldest place in the Valley, with the mercury dropping to minus 0.6°C, marking the district’s first sub-zero reading of the season.

Srinagar, meanwhile, recorded a minimum temperature of 2.9°C, reflecting a significant drop in nighttime temperatures. In the Jammu division, Jammu city registered a minimum of 14.1°C.

According to an official of the Meteorological Department, nighttime temperatures are expected to fall further in the coming days as dry weather conditions continue across the region.

The department has advised residents and tourists, particularly those visiting higher-altitude areas, to take necessary precautions as frost and colder conditions may intensify.

The early drop below freezing point at several locations marks the onset of harsher nighttime conditions across the Valley, with temperatures expected to remain a key concern as winter approaches.
