Srinagar, Sep 16: The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Srinagar, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), on Wednesday organised ‘Vartalap’ to create awareness about the Government of India’s Vision Document 2026–2029 for a drug-free India.
The three-year roadmap, launched in June 2026 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, focuses on reducing drug supply and demand, strengthening enforcement and expanding harm-reduction measures.
During the programme, NCB Zonal Director Piyush Kumar Ankit, PIB Srinagar Director Qazi Salman and Assistant Director (Media), Ministry of Home Affairs, Rajeev Kumar Rustagi briefed media representatives on key aspects of the roadmap.
The Vision Document rests on four pillars—intelligence and operation-based enforcement, control of precursor and synthetic drugs, demand and harm reduction, and capacity building and coordination.
Its operational approach is based on “Detect, Disrupt and Destroy”, targeting drug sources, trafficking routes, peddlers, financial networks, clandestine laboratories and organised trafficking groups.
The officials also highlighted government efforts in drug seizures, arrests, investigations and destruction of seized narcotics, besides measures to strengthen coordination among enforcement agencies.
The roadmap places particular emphasis on tackling synthetic drugs and darknet-enabled trafficking, disrupting narco-financing networks, preventing drug abuse among youth and improving access to treatment and rehabilitation.
The programme also underlined the role of educational institutions, NCC, NSS and My Bharat in creating awareness among young people and promoting a drug-free environment.
The ‘Vartalap’ stressed the role of media and public participation in spreading awareness and supporting the broader objective of building a drug-free India by 2029.
