
Srinagar, June 20: A lady was rescued after allegedly jumping into the River Jhelum from Amira Kadal in Srinagar's Lal Chowk area on Saturday, thanks to the swift response of alert locals and rescue teams.
Eyewitnesses said the lady jumped into the river from the bridge, triggering panic among people in the vicinity. Locals immediately raised an alarm and alerted the authorities, following which a rescue operation was launched.
Personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police rushed to the spot and successfully rescued the woman from the river before she could drown.
The woman was subsequently shifted to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.
Officials said her identity was being ascertained, while the circumstances that led to the incident were under investigation.
