Jammu, Aug 26: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Jammu, has busted an alleged cross-border heroin trafficking network by seizing 5.160 kilograms of heroin and arresting three people, including a suspected mastermind, officials said.

Acting on specific intelligence, an NCB team intercepted a vehicle at Panjtirthi in Jammu and recovered 5.160 kilograms of heroin from two occupants. Both men, who are residents of Baramulla, were arrested.

Officials estimated the value of the seized contraband at around Rs 11 crore.

During the subsequent investigation, NCB officials traced another Baramulla resident suspected of supplying the consignment and coordinating the alleged network. The suspect was located in Leh and arrested two days after the initial seizure.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the heroin may have originated in Pakistan and entered India through the Uri border sector. The agency is examining the alleged trafficking chain, financial transactions, transportation arrangements, local contacts and intended distribution network.

Officials said the investigation will focus on establishing both the forward and backward linkages of the suspected network.

Earlier this month, NCB Jammu seized 438 grams of heroin in an operation on August 12 and another 603 grams during a separate operation on August 13.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
