Jammu, August 8: The Shri Amarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended from Jammu on Saturday amid persistent rainfall and deteriorating weather conditions in Ramban district and parts of Kashmir, raising concerns over the safety of pilgrims travelling along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other routes leading to the pilgrimage sites.

As a precautionary measure, authorities did not allow a fresh batch of pilgrims to leave the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu. Officials said the decision was taken while weather conditions and the status of roads are being closely monitored.

The suspension comes amid the possibility of landslides, shooting stones and other weather-related disruptions along the highway and Yatra routes. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, particularly stretches in the Ramban sector, remains vulnerable to such incidents during periods of heavy or continuous rainfall.

Authorities are currently assessing road and weather conditions on the ground and will decide on the resumption of the pilgrimage after reviewing the situation.

Officials said the temporary halt has been imposed as a precautionary measure to minimise risks to pilgrims and ensure their safety while adverse weather conditions persist.
