Kohima/Silchar, July 5: Assam Rifles formations and Spear Healers under the Spear Corps carried out a series of community healthcare and awareness initiatives across Nagaland and Assam, reaffirming the force's commitment to improving public health and promoting preventive healthcare in remote and border areas.
As part of the outreach programme, a medical camp was organised at Cananran Village, where medical teams provided free health check-ups, consultations, medicines, and basic treatment to local residents. The initiative ensured access to essential healthcare services for people living in areas with limited medical facilities.
In another initiative, Assam Rifles personnel actively participated in the Pulse Polio Immunization Programme at Jalukie, supporting health authorities in administering life-saving polio vaccines to children. The programme aimed to strengthen immunisation coverage and contribute to the country's efforts to eradicate polio.
The force also organised a health awareness session for nearly 200 NCC cadets at Masimpur in Assam. Medical experts educated the cadets on the importance of menstrual hygiene, breast cancer awareness, early detection, and preventive healthcare. The interactive session encouraged participants to adopt healthy practices, break social stigma surrounding women's health issues, and spread awareness within their communities.
Officials said the initiatives were part of Assam Rifles' sustained civic action programmes focused on enhancing healthcare accessibility, promoting disease prevention, and empowering communities through education and awareness.
The outreach programmes received an encouraging response from local residents, students, and health authorities, highlighting the growing partnership between the security forces and civilian communities in addressing public health challenges.
Through such initiatives, Assam Rifles continues to play an important role beyond its operational responsibilities by supporting community welfare, strengthening healthcare access, and fostering trust and cooperation among the people of the North East.
