Assam Rifles pays tribute to martyr

Shillong, June 9: The Director General of Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, along with all ranks, paid solemn tribute to a brave soldier who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on June 9, 1964.

The remembrance reflects the force’s continued tradition of honouring its fallen heroes and acknowledging their contribution to the nation’s security and integrity. Officials said the sacrifice of the soldier remains an enduring source of inspiration for all personnel serving in the force.
During the tribute, senior leadership reiterated that the courage and dedication of martyrs form the foundation of the Assam Rifles ethos, strengthening the resolve of serving personnel to uphold duty, honour and commitment in challenging operational environments.
The commemoration also highlighted the long-standing legacy of service and sacrifice associated with the force, which continues to operate in difficult terrains and security situations while maintaining close engagement with local communities.
