
Srinagar, Aug 23: The 5th CANON C.E. Tyndale-Biscoe Invitational Football Tournament-2026 commenced with an impressive and colourful opening ceremony at the Tyndale Biscoe School Ground, Srinagar, bringing together young footballers, sports personalities, educationists, dignitaries and representatives of participating institutions.
The tournament carries a special significance in the sporting history of Kashmir. Tyndale Biscoe School holds the distinction of being the first school in the Valley of Kashmir to introduce football, thereby playing a pioneering role in nurturing and promoting the sport among the young people of the region. Over the years, the institution has remained deeply committed to using football as a means of developing discipline, teamwork, leadership, resilience and sportsmanship among students.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. G. V. Sandeep Chakravarthy (IPS), Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, as the Chief Guest, while Smt. Neha Jain (IPS), SP (East) and Mr. Rahul Rex Kaul, Director Tyndale-Biscoe & Mallinson Society were the Guest of Honours.
The ceremony began with the line-up of all participating teams, followed by the arrival of the Chief Guest. A bouquet was presented to the Chief Guest, followed by a Guard of Honour and General Salute presented by school NCC squad accompanied by the school band.
The programme included an Opening Prayer by Mr. Roy Mathews, followed by a warm welcome and felicitation by Ms. Mabel Yonzon, Principal TBMS. The participating teams then took part in the Team Flag Wave and Parade, setting the tone for a celebration of football and sportsmanship.
The cultural segment featured a Fusion Dance by The Mallinson Girls School and a Punjabi Dance by The Kashmir Valley School. This was followed by the introduction of the participating schools' teams and the Sports Pledge, led by the Sports Captain of Tyndale Biscoe School. The pledge reaffirmed the players' commitment to honour, respect, teamwork, fair play and sportsmanship.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. G. V. Sandeep Chakravarthy (IPS) encouraged the young footballers to compete with determination while upholding the highest values of discipline and sportsmanship. Smt. Neha Jain (IPS), SP (East) also shared her message with the participating teams.
Ms. Uzma Rafiq of Genius Career Consultancy addressed the gathering, followed by an address by Mr. Rahul Rex Kaul, Director, TBMS.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of the tournament trophy by the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, Director TBMS and Heads of Institutions. This was followed by a group photograph with team captains, coaches and managers, along with the dignitaries and Heads of Institutions, before the much-awaited kick-off of the tournament.
DAY-1 MATCH RESULTS
The tournament got off to an exciting start, with two competitive matches being played on Day 1.
Match 1: KVS vs DPS Baramulla
Result: KVS won 4–0
KVS put up a dominant performance in the opening match, securing a convincing 4–0 victory over DPS Baramulla.
Match 2: Foundational World vs Green Valley
Result: Foundational World won 3–2
The second encounter proved to be a closely contested affair, with Foundational World edging past Green Valley 3–2 in an exciting match.
The Day-1 results set an encouraging tone for the tournament, with the young footballers displaying enthusiasm, competitive spirit and a strong commitment to fair play.
The occasion was also graced by several eminent personalities from the world of football and public life, including Mr. Nazir Ahmad, Head of Referees and J&K State & Referee Assessor of AIFF; Mr. Azim Parvez, U-17 international footballer of Kashmir and former student; Mr. Adil Rashid, SHO Kothibagh; Mr. Beigh Shabir Hussain, Managing Director, Genius Career Consultancy; along with other distinguished guests, representatives of participating institutions, Parent Council members and members of the TBMS fraternity.
